The middle of no-where, or the centre of everywhere?
Ngatea, known as the halfway stop for motorists heading north or south,
or digressing east or west on State highway 2.
Approximately one hours drive from Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, the
southern Coromandel beaches of Whangamata, Waihi Beach, Tairua, Onemana,
Pauanui, Opoutere, Whiritoa, and a little further to Whitianga, Cooks Beach, Coromandel, Hahei, or in the south, Rotorua and Taupo.
Ngatea (population 1128) is the 'service centre' for the prosperous
farming area of the Hauraki Plains, It was established as a result of a
unique series of canals and stop banks which drained the land and
produced the rich farmlands for dairy production.
The Copper Kettle acts as the information centre for the Hauraki Plains
on behalf of the
Hauraki District Council.
